After an amazing birthday weekend full of friends, family, and beyond I’ve decided to give YOU all a thank you present:
the new Brooklyn Is Burning remix of Missy Elliott’s Hot Boyz! DOWNLOAD WAV
Just released, a remix I did for my buddy King Ralphy‘s debut single with Bryan Galvan, “Over 2 The Speaker” on HiLo Records (available now on beatport) I called up some my progressive memories for this one kids, enjoy.
P.S. I’m looking for a copy of her version of “Manic Monday” (a track recorded originally for Apollonia 6 but given instead the The Bangles)
If anyone has it…let’s chat!
You can also hear her duet with Prince on “Take Me With You”
I know I’m a little late on this one as it’s been floating round the internet for well over a year, but she did just become available for download on Juno in June. So slink back in your lounge chair, drink in hand, cuz this one is MADE for sun-drenched afternoons.
Ok, so I’ve been hearing a LOT from people who don’t like/feature/get/care for/etc. the new Beyoncé album. Well let me just say that I am QUITE impressed by this effort! Not only does it contain melodies, hooks, and interesting beats, but it also went straight from the speakers and lodged itself in my brain after just 2 listens. Now I understand some of these chord structures (“Rather Die Young,” “Party”) might be a little hard on the ears of those used to the simplistic monotone of today’s pop refrains. I also understand that one key-change might take a modern listener by surprise, but Beyoncé, FOUR, in one song (“Love On Top”)…now you’ve just taken things too far, TOO far! Maybe Princess Beyoncé is just growing up and letting us glimpse into her 80′s childhood (“I Care”), or maybe she finally has the power as the most successful artist of her generation to squash the “how will we market this” question with a simple “I am Beyoncé and I am the Queen!”
Having been out of town the past few weeks I haven’t had much time for new music…but in preparation for this evenings party at Bedlam I’ve been working through the piles of beats that have come through.
First off let’s get into this re-edit Melé did DHS’s House of God. After the so-so remix pack that came out a few years ago I’m very happy to hear this slightly spiced up but pretty same version of the original.
Up next, a great one from a few of my NYC sisters. Honey Dijon & Sebastian Manuel dig deep into the crates for their samples on their latest release, out on House of Stank‘s Get Up Recordings. “Tonight” is beautiful house melodies, classic vocals laid out over some jackin’ beats…a perfect mix for the beach AND the dancefloor.
Here’s one with a sick groove off the MELONSOUND label. Laid down by an Italian named Simon Says, “Digital Madness” is a peak-time monster with marching snare, jingling samples and an evil bassline that just slay me. Althought this track was released in May I just found out about Mr.Simon, and after listening to this record a few times I can think of a FEW people who might do whatever he Says.
